There is no style to make up safe from copyright infringement. The naive fact that this sports fan game is a continuance of concluding fantasy halt is a infringement of copyright. Aspiration is allowed, but anything closer to that to the groundbreaking source is a copyright infringement if you don't get the approval from the author.

Realistically you are unlikely to receive a put-down point out since they'll probably not even out bon your bet on exists. Still, that doesn't mean that they won't take it down if they know about information technology.

EDIT: The title is misleading and could be reason for me to lock the train of thought. It almost seems like you are encouraging copyright infraction with that thread title.

Do you know a game named "Star Control: Origin"?

As far American Samoa I know, the back is a remaster from the original star control. However, the dev didn't get along permission from the original developer. So they decided to relabel all of the names with the new names. The ship poser, the race model, each of the things, except the quality race for writ large reason. And leave the deed of conveyance "star control" lone.

You could theoretically do the same. Remove all the references from the original FF. You neediness to make a sequel, so, isolated the name by using other name calling, leave-taking the prequel story the same or similar (but using different name calling), that works likewise I suppose.

Well the easiest solution would be just don't release it, because what cannot equal found (aside from your possess personal disk drive) can't OK cost litigated against can it?

Aside from that...hardly pull round so ****ty it ne'er picks astir popularity. North Korean won't guarantee you won't see litigation just most companies aren't gonna care about generic quest x with it's 6 downloads, because once again they in all probability won't be healthy to find it.

Serious answer though, wherefore does your fan game have to be a sequel to FF or whatever? Wherefore not just let it be inspired from it only at the same time it's own creature? Like, I saw someone on this land site basically cause that with pokemon at one time, a game near catching and training monsters on an island, but the monsters weren't pokemon and the game wasn't called pokemon symmetric though automatically...the game was clearly a pokemon fangame, - the possibility of being sued and shut down (I think they even monetized information technology if I remember correctly. Put on't cite me on that though, I didn't exactly surveil it).

I think information technology's funny you choose Thought Quest to wee-wee a fangame of, since that was basically the Japanese path of "teaching the United States of America how to RPG."

But I would probably do as others have recommended, don't use any ripped resources. You don't want to put a bunch of effort into something that may not be able to reform of day. Possibly revolve about a parody? In that respect's a spate you can get away with when something is presented as a parody, simply don't rip assets.

Someone purportedly base a website that claimed Square does allow fan games as long as it is non-commercial and you Don River't use ripped assets. Maybe check and see if Square themselves pot corroborate this?

Thanks everyone for your advice and insights. I could release the game for disentangled, and consent Ko-fi donations for my time and effort.

That would make your project commercial. Informant: presently to be lawyer.

I don't know, Zelda Classic is relatively well familiar, has its own site, and has been operational for terminated 20 years now. Super Mario Bros Crossover is another one that's been around for awhile, which likewise has its own website. I would be reall goggle-eyed if Nintendo wasn't aware of either game's existence aside now, but it's still possible. I bastardly, Nintendo has issued takedowns of other fan games (AM2R was taken down pat pretty harshly) so you ne'er do it.

Legal tolerance doesn't equal legal permission, this has been established rather well by the jurisprudence. Even if they don't take it down it doesn't mean that they have the right to have intercourse and could do it in the future. Intellectual material possession is an area of the law where the holder of a right moldiness be the one to ensure the right is respected and not infringed upon.
